Connecting 'Community' and 'Conservation'

Health and Safety

Everyone agrees health and safety is important. This is because of the value we put on life, and because everyone wants to be able to undertake activities without limitations from injuries and effects of disease. For businesses, organisations and community groups, there is also the legislated requirements to ensure a safe workplace.

When dealing with Work Health & Safety (WHS), because it’s a broad topic some wonder where to start. Having an understanding of Risk Management is a good place – but this may require some explanation. Peter Verrion, one of our regular contributors, has prepared a pdf file that provides an introduction to this element of WHS. Download it below:

Risk Management Quick Guide v1.3 (pdf version – e-pub version under development)

There is plenty of other information available. The web links below have a large range of information:

WorkSafe Victoria – the body that looks after WHS in Victoria. They have a huge range of resources related to WHS. (Each state/territory has their own body – these are listed on this page and also in the e-book above.)

Safe Work Australia – the federal body that focuses on development of policy for improvements to WHS nationally.

OHS reps – A Victorian Trades Hall Council site, with topics on a wide range of WHS issues
